How it works?
AMR, which works by translating the movement of the mechanical dials on a meter into a digital signal, does not require physical access or visual inspection. The data can be transmitted from the meter to the utility company by telephone, power line, satellite, cable or radio frequency (RF). AMR stands for Automated Meter Reading. The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will be replacing existing water meters with an electronic transmitting device in order to provide better service to our customers. Automated meter reading is the communication technology water utilities use to automatically collect water consumption and status data from water meters. AMR systems can be either walk-by or drive-by. An endpoint is connected to the meter's encoder register.
